Carlos Rodríguez-Castelán is a lead economist in the Africa region and global lead of the Data for Policy Global Solutions Group at the World Bank. Previously he was a senior economist in the Latin America and the Caribbean region of the World Bank’s Poverty and Equity Global Practice. Before joining the bank, Carlos was a postdoctoral fellow at Brookings, and held short-term research positions at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and UN-ECLAC. He also worked for the Government of Mexico in the Ministry of Education.

He holds a bachelor's degree in economics, a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s in public policy from Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM). He also holds a masters and doctorate in economics from Cornell University.

His main areas of interest are in public economics and development economics. His research focuses on growth, productivity and inequality analysis, efficiency and equity effects of market failures, labor market analysis, impact evaluation of fiscal and social policies, and vulnerability to shocks. He has published in peer reviewed academic journals, and he is the author of several World Bank books and policy reports.

Carlos Rodríguez-Castelán joined IZA as a Research Fellow in February 2019.
