Simon Wiederhold is Professor of Labor Economics at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and Senior Research Advisor at the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH). He is also Research Professor at the ifo Institute Munich, CESifo Research Fellow, and ROA Research Fellow.

Before moving to Halle, Simon Wiederhold was Professor of Macroeconomics at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and a Post-Doc at the ifo Institute Munich. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, where he participated in the Research Training Group “The Economics of Innovative Change” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

In his research, Simon Wiederhold investigates causes and consequences of inequality in the education system. He is also interested in the importance of education for economic prosperity and the future of the labor market. His work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Political Economy, the Journal of the European Economic Association, the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, and the Journal of Human Resources.

Simon Wiederhold joined IZA as a Research Fellow in May 2023.
