J. David Brown

J. David Brown graduated from the University of Iowa in 1991 with double degrees in Global Studies and Russian and received a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1996. His fields of interest are Labor Economics and Applied Microeconomics, with a focus on enterprise restructuring issues relevant to transition economies. Currently he is a senior economist in the Center for Economic Studies at the U.S. Census Bureau. He is also a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Reform and Transformation (CERT) and the Central European University Labor Project. He was previously a reader in Finance at Heriot-Watt University (2001-2009) and an assistant professor at the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics and the Stockholm School of Economics (1996-2001). He is the author of several papers on enterprise restructuring in transition economies, including publications in the Journal of Political Economy, the American Political Science Review, the Economic Journal, the Journal of Regional Science, Economic Development and Cultural Change, the Journal of Comparative Economics, Europe-Asia Studies, and Russian Economic Trends. He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in January 2002 and serves in his personal capacity.
