Dr Hanna Mühlrad is an applied microeconomist with a special interest in topics related to health, fertility, and gender differences in the labor market. Mühlrad received her PhD in economics from the Department of Economics at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden in 2018 and is currently a researcher at the Institute for Evaluation of Labour Market and Education Policy (IFAU) in Uppsala, Sweden. Prior to that, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Economics at Lund University. Mühlrad was a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Economics at Stanford University during 2022 and is affiliated with Uppsala Center for Labor Studies, Uppsala University’s Center for Health Economic Research and the Department of Global Public Health at Karolinska Insitutet.
Mühlrad leverages clinical evelopments in reproductive medicine, changing guidelines in obstetric care, and legal restrictions to reproductive health rights to answer key questions about female labor participation, gender wage gap, fertility, human capital formation and intergenerational transmission of human capital. Her research is based on causal inference methods used in applied micro econometrics, biostatistics, and epidemiology. She has published in outlets such as Journal of Health Economics, Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Scientific Reports, Journal of Women’s Health, Journal of Sexual Medicine, and European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology.
Hanna Mühlrad joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in May 2023.
