Dr. Mihails Hazans is a professor of econometrics at the University of Latvia. M. Hazans is also the Global Labor Organization (GLO) fellow and research associate at the Baltic International Centre for Economic Policy Studies (BICEPS). Projects, to which M. Hazans contributed since 2015, include, among others:

• “Exploring Well-Being and Social Integration in the Context of Liquid Migration” and “The Emigrant Communities of Latvia” (for the Latvian Council of Science)
• “Undeclared work in Latvia”, "An in-depth analysis of the emigration of skilled labour" and “An in-depth analysis of the impact of reforms on inequality” (for the European Commission)
• “Evaluation of the Size of Diaspora" (for Latvia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
• “Investment Tax Incentives in the EU”, "Latvia Tax Review" and "Latvia Active Aging" (for the World Bank)
• “Latvia – OECD Accession Review” (for OECD).
Current research of Mihails Hazans focuses on the role of human values, personality traits, and parental background in shaping individual labour market outcomes. Other directions of Prof. Hazans’ studies include teleworking, migration and remittances, ethnic minorities, informal employment, envelope wages, and economics of education. Mihails Hazans contributed chapters to books published by Springer (4), Ashgate, Edward Elgar and OECD, as well as articles in academic journals such as Economica, Empirica, Labour: Review of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations, and the Journal of Population Economics.  He often comments on labour and migration issues in media.
