Fabrizio Mazzonna is Professor in Economics at Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI) in Lugano where he also serves as the head of the department of Economics (IdEP).
He earned his PhD in Econometrics from the University of Rome Tor Vergata in 2011. Before joining USI in 2013, he worked as Senior Researcher for the Munich Center of Economics of Ageing (MEA) at the Max Planck Institute in Munich.

His research interests are in the fields of health and labor economics and applied microeconometrics. In particular, he has investigated the cause and consequences of health and cognitive depreciation at older ages. Other focuses of his research are migration, sleep, and mental health economics.

Since 2018, he is the director of Center for Economic and Political Research on Aging (CEPRA) which organizes a yearly workshop with NBER on “Health and Aging”. He is in the board, and founding member, of the Swiss Society of Health Economics (SGGOE).

Fabrizio Mazzonna joined IZA as a Research Fellow in September 2020.
