Stephen Nickell has been Warden of Nuffield College, Oxford, since 2006. He is also a member of the three person UK Budget Responsibility Committee, which is in charge of the Office for Budget Responsibility. He was previously a School Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and a member of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee. His research interests include unemployment, wage determination, productivity and labour supply. He is past President of the Royal Economic Society. He was elected to a Fellowship of the Econometric Society in 1980 and of the British Academy in 1993. He has been an Honorary Member of the American Economic Association since 1997 and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2006.
Stephen Nickell joined IZA as a Research Fellow in January 2004.
In 2008 he received the IZA Prize in Labor Economics jointly with Richard Layard.
