Nkechi S. Owoo

Nkechi S. Owoo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Ghana. She has been a Visiting Scholar at the World Bank's Development Economics Research Group (DECRG) and is also a non-resident research fellow at the Centre for Global Development in Washington DC. She is a Fellow of the FAR-LeaF programme at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and the Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) in Nairobi, Kenya. She is also affiliated with the Environment for Development Institute (EfD-Ghana) as well as the African Centre of Excellence for Inequality Research (ACEIR).


She has served as a resource person for the International Labor Organization (ILO), Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), as well as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Her current research focuses on climate change adaptation, as well as education and labour market outcomes among vulnerable populations. Her work also revolves around themes of women's entrepreneurship and small business performance, and youth unemployment in sub-Saharan African countries.

She joined IZA as a Research Fellow in May 2024.
