Nico Pestel

Nico Pestel is an Associate Professor at the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA) at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. He obtained his PhD in economics from the University of Cologne in 2013. Before joining ROA in November 2021, he held various positions at IZA in Bonn. He was head of the institute's research team "Policy Challenges" and coordinator of IZA's network program area "Environment, Health, and Labor Markets". He continues to work closely with IZA's local research team as an Associated Member.

Nico's research interests are in applied labor, environmental and public economics as well as in political economy. He is particularly interested in the role of environmental conditions for labor market outcomes, human capital formation as well as decision-making.
