Peter Bergman

Peter Bergman, is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Texas at Austin; Co-Chair of the Improving Education Outcomes in North America Initiative at the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at MIT; Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research; and Innovation Fellow at Schmidt Futures. His research has been covered by The New York Times, NPR, The Atlantic, CNN, Vox, and more. Dr. Bergman founded and directs a research lab, www.learningcollider.org, which uses tools from economics and machine learning to instrument digital platforms for real-time research and social impact. Our work engages key determinants of social mobility: education, housing, and employment.

Previously, Dr. Bergman was a New York City Teaching Fellow and a middle school special education teacher.

He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in May 2017 and became a Research Fellow in December 2023.
